Books
There are lots of books available, all of which are fairly similar in that
they present the basics, but vary in their tone and focus. I can't recommend
one over the others, you need to go to a good library (such as the British
Library) and have a look for yourself.

Fuel Cells and their Applications, Kordesch, 1996
Fuel Cell Systems, Blomen, 1993
Fuel Cell Technology Handbook, Hoogers, 2000

Brief of US Lab and College Energy Technologies
A strange public letter addressed, I assume, to the President, in light of
the CA energy crisis, regarding alternative energy technologies under development.

National Energy Technology Laboratory (NETL)
The newest Lab, not a lot of independent reasearch - primarily business and
policy. Basic information can be found by searching. NETL has
set up the Solid State Energy Alliance (SECA). Apparently NETL does
produce good reports but they must be purchased.

Environmnetal Protection Agency (EPA)
Primarily a regulatory body, but with some research activities into applications
(especially landfill and sewage processing methane recovery and utilisation).
Searches pull up basics plus some specific projects. EPA has commited
to conducting comparative life cycle analysis of energy technologies see 'Craddle
to Grave' conference above, actual work is done by others such as ANL and
NRMRL.

Argonne National Laboratory (ANL)
Primarily Transportation Technology. Of great interest is 'The Greenhouse
Gases, Regulated Emissions, and Energy Use in Transportation (GREET) Model',
which compares the environmnetal impact of an astounding number of fuel and
power production technologies. Also researching solid oxide fuel cells,
direct methanol PEM fuel cells, high temperature sealant materials for fuel
cells and reformers for fuel cells.
